Should I have a colonoscopy? Bowel cancer screening
Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world. Each year, more than 16,000 Australians are diagnosed with bowel cancer. It's not all bad news! With early detection almost all cases of bowel cancer are curable.
Although scanning can be used to detect bowel cancer, a colonoscopy is currently considered the superior choice for detection as scans can miss polyps or small cancers. During a colonoscopy, these polyps can also be removed for microscopic diagnosis.
Dr Daoud is a certified endoscopist with the Gastroenterological Society Australia and has performed over 3000 colonoscopies, performing over 400 each year.
If you have private health insurance with hospital cover, there is no charge* for the colonoscopy. All you need to do is see your GP for an 'Open Access Referral Letter', and we can book you in for the procedure without needing to have a consultation beforehand.
